MISER-Pump Scheduling for Optimisation of Water Supply Operation
Tynemarch Systems Engineering Ltd has recently released an addition to its widely used MISER water resource modelling suite - now licensed to nine UK water companies and authorities. MISER-PS follows on from thirteen years of practical experience in on-line and off-line pump scheduling systems, successfully achieving electricity bill savings of 5-10% year after year.
MISER-PS identifies the optimal set of reservoir profiles, valve settings and pump switchings to minimise energy costs whilst satisfying security of supply, pump wear and flow change objectives. By optimising against alternative scenarios, MISER-PS can be used to:
determine optimal settings for local and remote operating controls
plan the system maintenance schedule to minimise operational impact
identify the operating costs of different tariff options
assess alternative capital investment options and their effect on operation
develop emergency response procedures to system failures
Embodying the extensive range of functionality to be found in MISER-Strategic, MISER-PS can also be used to develop reliable and least-cost strategic operating policies over the long and medium-term, to be passed as "envelopes" of allowable operation within which energy cost savings can be achieved by pump and valve scheduling. Use of the same software and model across all timescales in this manner ensures a consistent management of the supply system, with reduced modelling effort and data manipulation.
