The MISER user group meeting was held at the Euston Plaza Hotel, London and was attended by most of the current licence holders plus a number considering joining the MISER community. For details of how the day went, read our review.
MISER - Information Update (May 2001)
Following the release of MISER in 1996, nine UK water and sewerage undertakings and water-only companies have become MISER licence holders. With continuous development, users have benefited from regular software updates, and a range of optional extensions now exists for particular applications.
A new member of the MISER suite has recently been released: MISER-Pump Scheduler (PS) is used to determine optimal pump and valve schedules for energy cost optimisation.
The use of strategic MISER has grown to include a broader range of capital investment analysis and operational planning applications, including:
Outage Analysis
Consequence modelling of failures such as works loss and burst mains for security of supply risk analysis and maintenance planning
Strategic Operational Planning
Optimisation of medium-term operation (e.g. over 2 years) using forecast demands and yields to derive monthly, weekly or daily flow and reservoir operating targets
AMP programme planning
Impact of AMP programme and potential overruns on supply reliability, operating cost and water quality
Control Rule Derivation and Simulation
Single pass optimisation using probabilistic inflows to derive control rules, and subsequent simulation using consecutive period optimisation
Sizing of New Assets
Identification of the minimum capacity of works, reservoirs and pumping stations required in order to meet demand
