The current application for producing a water budget for South East Water was described by Marcus and Paul Holmes (South East Water) - a timely topic given the recent weather. SEW are using MISER to undertake regular water budget analysis considering both the 1-2 year horizon and the next 1-3 months. The output is an operational plan for licence utilisation, production, river abstractions, imports, key transfers and impounding reservoir usage at minimum cost, taking into account system infrastructure constraints planned outages etc. Particular points of interest included the incorporation of complex licence constraints and the use of MISER to optimise at both the regional level (e.g. between major WTW) and local
level (e.g. for a partially isolated set of boreholes).
