Gerry Spraggs (Anglian Water) and Marcus described the first MISER applications in Anglian Water which focussed on:
Strategic modelling of the Ruthamford area
Resources analysis during drought periods
The strategic modelling was applied to the period 1 October 1997 to 30 June 1998 and demonstrated the potential of about 10% savings through the re-distribution of production.
The model was also used to explore the benefit of reducing the output from a key works in order to manage the risk of exceeding the nitrate targets.
The model was extended to include drought control measures including:
hosepipe bans
ban on non-essential use and mrf reductions
standpipes and rota cuts
A range of artificial low streamflow sequences were used, generated with the MISER module for probabilistic inflow generation.
The degree to which drought measures would be required was explored under a range of low inflow sequences.
Future plans within Anglian include the use of MISER-SI (see below) in relation to AMP4 selection of the optimal set of schemes and programme for implementation.
