In an off-line mode, MISER is applied to consequence analysis of outages to determine reliability requirements of non-infrastructure assets, in relation to Business Plan preparations and on-going investment planning.
On-line, MISER is used for emergency response management, to determine system recovery for reservoir refill at least cost. MISER can distribute deficit as widely as possible to lessen the impact at affected demand centres. Further information can be found in the CIWEM 2006 paper available in publications.
For planned outages, MISER will determine system operation to prepare for the outage, e.g. fill reservoirs in advance.
Source Tracker
In the event of a contamination incident, MISER can track the routing of a contaminant from source to demand, or identify potential sources of contaminant given affected demands. The Source Tracker identifies the percentage of each source entering demand nodes, taking into account reservoir mixing, and can be used to track conservative substances.
