MISER-S represents the basic package and operates over a range of time steps (e.g.
daily, weekly, monthly) to produce optimal operational plans for optimisation horizons
ranging from 1 day up to many years. MISER-S can be used for:
The Water Resources Module extends MISER-S to provide additional facilities for
determining surfacewater yields for given levels of service, including:
Embedding of Basic code in the model providing increased flexibility and
to enable links to other applications, such as spreadsheets and network modelling
software
Trigger curves, which model demand and prescribed flow reductions at low reservoir
levels
Yield search, adopting the industry standard method of identifying deployable output
Source tracking determines the fraction of source water reaching destination nodes
for tracking conservative substances and is commonly used to analyse the potential
impact of contamination failures.
Sub-Daily Extension
This extension permits use of optimisation timesteps and data types (profiles, sequences,
licences, etc) as short as half-hour in duration, and incorporates derived profiles
(combining diurnal, weekly and annual profiles) and operational response times.
This extension is used for short-term outage modelling.
On-line links to corporate telemetry systems may be added to support emergency response
management.
This extension generates synthetic inflow sequences that have formal probabilistic
significance for use in production and water resources planning. A range of techniques
and distribution types can be applied to derive, for example, a series representing
a 1 in 200 year sequence. In addition, MISER can generate sequences based on minimum
and average historical data.
MISER-SI is an extension to MISER-S which extends the optimisation objectives to
include selection of investment schemes. Multiple user-defined supply-side and demand-side
schemes can be added to MISER-S models and MISER-SI will determine the set of schemes
to be undertaken, their phasing and how the supply system should be operated to
ensure adequate supply-demand balance (including headroom) at minimum NPV costs.
MISER-PS is an extension to MISER-S which incorporates generation of pump and valve
schedules, taking into account pump operating points and tariff variations. MISER-PS
is an off-line system and can be used to produce results under alternative operational
scenarios (demands, storage, etc) for short-term production planning (i.e. within
day operation over next 1-7 days) and electricity tariff comparison. MISER-PS includes
the sub-daily extension.
MISER-PSL is an extension to MISER-PS, where a connection is made to telemetry in
order to obtain the latest network information (e.g. licence usage and prevailing
reservoir levels) and for derivation of demand forecasts. It is designed to be used
in a Control Room environment, providing:
Automatic production of pump schedules
Automatic forecasting of short-term demands (e.g. 24hrs ahead)
Performance monitoring of demands, storage and flows against forecast levels
MISER-SR is an extension to MISER-S which adds Monte Carlo Simulation to demands
and inflow sequences. Optimisations are performed for a number of trials in which
demands and inflows are sampled from user-defined statistical distributions. This
produces distributions of optimal results which show how costs, supply-demand balance,
abstractions and so on are expected to vary with input uncertainty.
