PIONEER supports the creation of fully user-configurable Intervention Types as generic definitions of interventions. The PIONEER optimiser (see Forecasts & Optimisations page) automatically generates optimal interventions based on user-specified Intervention Types.
Application Scope
A comprehensive criteria system provides users with complete control over the application of Intervention Types.
Examples of the possible scope of an Intervention Type might include:
All company resource zones
A single pump
All 50mm Cast Iron water mains
Private sewers with an age of 10 years or more
Intervention Effects & Consequences
Users can specify a wide range of effects and consequences which occur if the intervention is performed, including:
Changes to the attributes of assets (e.g. installation date, material)
Resources (e.g. number of people required to perform the intervention, a maximum expenditure constraint, max and min limits on the scale of an intervention such as total km of mains renewed)

SERVICEABILITY INDICATORS
The output of the modelled assets is measured and optimised using Serviceability Indicators which comprise asset performance indicators (e.g. number of pipe bursts) and service levels (e.g. number of unplanned interruptions to water supply).
The set of Serviceability Indicators and their characteristics is fully user-configurable.
Key Features
In addition to their basic definitions, the key features of Serviceability Indicators include:
Categorised pro-rata costs
Can be composite: comprising up to 5 other serviceability indicators
Can be derived as the sum of other serviceability indicators
Can be scaled according to factors such as a measure of facility size, rural/urban location, proximity of housing, etc.
