SamMap and SAM are seamlessly integrated software packages providing an advanced management support system for controlling the application of sludge to agricultural land.
SAM ensures that applications comply to the regulations governing disposal levels and concentrations of potentially toxic elements, and fulfils legislative audit requirements. Modelling is also carried out for nutrient requirements and availability. This core package has been in use throughout Southern Water Services since 1992.
SamMap is a newly introduced mapping interface which enables geographical information such as field boundaries, agricultural unit divisions and access routes to be readily digitised on top of background maps.
In addition to map displays SamMap also processes the geographical data, for example to derive restricted areas from environmental maps.
SamMap and SAM can be used on laptop PCs by representatives in the field. Data updates are sent
automatically via email to a central administration site, from which updated soil and sludge sample data are distributed.
