SamMap maintains all the information which would normally be held on paper maps, including these boundaries and markers:
farm
field
agricultural unit
restricted area
farm office
farm building
stockpile
route marker
Ordnance Survey® background maps are displayed, together with various environmental maps such as groundwater protection zones.
These data are taken from files in the MapInfoTM standard format.
The user is able to select the type of background map to display on the screen (vector or raster) and which types of foreground data to display and label. The map scale on screen or on paper may be set to a particular value, for example to match a farmer's maps.
Restricted areas within fields are generated automatically according to user specified criteria such as the distance from watercourses and paths marked on the OS vector maps and around areas marked on environmental maps. Other restricted areas may be defined manually if required. The nett area of the field is displayed as it is being digitised.
Other geographical functions include listing the nearest works producing a specified type of sludge, and locating an area from a list of farms, a town/street gazetteer or the NGR.
Reporting
SamMap provides a full range of tailored reports including application advice, audit, farmers' advice and returns to Ofwat and the EA.
'Find and list' reports include soil quality, sludge movements, farm details, works and soil & sludge samples. Data can be excluded using complex combinations of criteria such as '>', 'AND' & 'OR'. The user can also specify which columns appear and by which to sort and summarise. Data export facilities are provided.
